Near the fork of the branch, where the oldest tree grows, could be something below.
Our Organization
OAI meets on the third Tuesday of each month at Jacksonville University in the Gooding Building at 7 P.M., generally in room 112, but look in the entry hallway for our Old Arlington sign, which will have any last minute changes (we do not meet in December).
Founded in 1993, Old Arlington Inc. is a non-profit organization formed for the purpose of protecting and promoting the health, safety, morals, comfort, convenience, education, and general welfare of the citizens of the Greater Arlington Area of Jacksonville, Florida. This is to be accomplished through cultivation of general knowledge concerning the history of Arlington, Jacksonville, Florida. And by promoting economic development and revitalization within the Greater Arlington Area.
What is being called the "Greater Arlington" area today is a rather large area extending from the river well towards the beaches. Advertisements and news broadcast have expanded the original neighborhood with no definite eastern boundary. Our organization has defined the area we feel is qualified for historic preservation as follows:
Bounded on the north and west by the St. Johns River extending down Little Pottsburg Creek to Atlantic Boulevard. The Atlantic Boulevard corridor on the south, and, on the east, the Mill Creek road corridor extending north through Hartsfield Road to the St. Johns River, containing approximately 30 square miles. This incorporates the areas of the Spanish grants, which became the original community of Arlington at the beginning of the twentieth century.
